Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2018

G’day friends! How are we all on this day? It’s mid June so I thought it’s the perfect time to have another crack at the ‘Mid Year Book Freak Out’ Tag! This tag was originally created by Chami from Read Like Wildfire and Ely from Earl Grey Books. This tag provides bloggers, readers, youtubers and everyone really, the opportunity to reflect on their reading in the first half of the year. I was not tagged, but it was so much fun doing it last year so I thought why not do it again?. Let’s go~

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2018.

Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS ONE. I read it in early January, and I often found myself reaching for it for a quick flip through every once in a while – because I love it THAT much. You can find out why I simply ‘can’t-stop-talking-about-it’ on my spoiler-free review here.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2018.

Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

‘SHOOK TO ME CORE’ would be an understatement. But I can’t recommend Scythe enough – now do yourself a favour and pick it upppp!!!! If you’ve read Scythe already but not Thunderhead – you can read my spoiler-free review on here.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

  1. Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir
  2. Obsidio by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman
  3. Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton
  4. Star Wars: The Last Jedi by Jason Fry
  5. Defy the Worlds by Claudia Gray

These three I do want to read, desperately, but I don’t know why, but I’m not in the mood for any of these at the moment… will see how it goes this month!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

  1. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
  2. Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco
  3. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

5. Biggest disappointment.

Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

I mean, it wasn’t bad or anything – I have it 3 stars I’m pretty sure. But I don’t know… it’s definitely too hyped up for me. And I really wish I found it better. You can read my spoiler-free review for it here.

6. Biggest surprise.

Save the Date by Morgan Matson

I totally didn’t expect this one to be SO SUPERBLY GOOD! I read it in three-ish sittings because I was super hooked! It’s hilarious and catastrophically wonderful! I’ll be participating in the Australian Save the Date Blog Tour (28 June – 3 July) – my Instagram (and blog) review and giveaway will be up on 1st of July! I’ll put the link on here once it’s live!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Emma Mills!!!!!!!!

After reading and loving Foolish Hearts, I went ahead and read all of her books! They were all fantastic and I loved every single one! Maybe it’s just me but I found all her characters so relatable and I love her witty writing!

8. Newest fictional crush.

Gideon Prewitt from Foolish Hearts is definitely on top of the list – he’s goofy, so caring, brave, kind, loyal and charming — I just love him so much.

9. Newest favourite character.

Citra Terranova from Scythe and Thunderhead! She’s clever, resourceful (like her pal Rowan) and compassionate. I love her character and how much she has grown as an independent young woman and that is one of the many reasons why I enjoyed Scythe and Thunderhead so much!

10. Book that made you cry.

Does happy-cry (aka laughter-turned-to-tears) count? I haven’t read anything this year thus far that made me ugly cry – but books that made me laughed so hard that tears came slipping out? Oh hell yeah for sure. I nearly laughed my eyeballs out while re-reading Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater and also Save the Date by Morgan Matson.

11. Book that made you happy.

Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley

After months and months of being harassed told kindly by many of my friends to read this bad boy – I FINALLY DID and oh damn how much I regretted for not picking it up sooner!!! It’s such a heartfelt story and let me tell you THE ONE of the many reasons as to why you should ALL read this book ASAP (if you haven’t already) – because it’s ABOUT BOOKS, BOOKSTORE AND OUR LOVE FOR READING. Go do yourself a massive favour and check this one out!!!! It’s also written by a #LoveOzYA author which is a BONUS!

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

Love, Simon 2018 – (Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli)

Just watched this week and it was fabulous! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year. (Booktube version: Favourite video you have done so far in this year)

Not to brag, but I’m really proud of my Thunderhead review! You can read it here.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills (once again!)

Since I’ve already featured the cover on the top of this post, I thought I would post the embroidery/ creation of the cover!!!! HOW COOL IS THIS RIGHT?

The cover beneath the jacket is equally stunning I MEAN LOOOOK!!!!!!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

  1. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
  2. A Different Blue by Amy Harmon
  3. The Traitor’s Kiss by Erin Beaty
  4. The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
  5. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I’m so thrilled that I have finally done a book tag after so long! I’m proud with the number of books I’ve read so far this year and I want to hear some of your thoughts on these questions too!

I am tagging:

@Jasper + Spice

@Bookish Kirra

@My Life in Books

@Written Word Worlds

For those who want to do the tag – I TAG ALL OF YOU TOO!!! Be sure to mention/link me so that I can check out your posts too!

Have a great day and until next time!

Wings out.

The Raven Cycle Book Tag

So … a day or so ago while I was productively procrastinating from studying, I went on a wild 3 am search for some new The Raven Cycle fanart (I was desperate), and I encountered Anna @ Annaish who did a Raven Cycle book tag – AND I KNEW THAT I HAVE TO DO IT ASAP (and alas, I finally got the time to write this by procrastinating even more). Here we go:

  1. In the books, Maura is the relaxed mom that is Blue’s friend more than an actual mother. Who is your favourite mom character?

Mrs Weasley From Harry Potter!!! She’s the kindest, most caring and loving mother, and she is a hella brave too (recall all the duel scenes)! She’s different from Maura who is more chill, but Mrs Weasley also has her quirk too and will fight you if you *sobs* hurt her family.

  1. Adam wanted to go to Aglionby so he could one day escape where he came from. Have you ever dreamt of living somewhere else? Where?

I surely have! I’d dreamt of living in England, not necessarily London but that would be nice actually, but just anywhere in the UK would be epic. Scotland would be nice too, no way I would complain about that.

  1. In the second book we meet the Gray Man. He is a hit man who loves poetry. Name a book that you thought was going to be one thing but turned out to be something else.

For me it was November 9 by Colleen Hoover. It was my first ever CoHo book, and OH MY GOSH, I did not expect it to be ONE HECK OF A RIDE? I read it on a family trip bad choice. My heart self-combusted after that book. Both good and bad ways such strong emotions are occasionally bad for the heart I’m telling you.

The Aesthetically Pleasing Book Tag

Hey guys! It’s time for another book tag! I’ve been at an awful slump for the past few weeks – but don’t worry – I’ve started Nevernight and I hope that will bring me out of it! In the mean time, I’m gonna have a crack at The Aesthetically Pleasing Book Tag!

This tag was created by Book Syrup on Youtube, and you can find the original video here!

1. Best color combo on a book cover

Not gonna lie, I ain’t the biggest fan on pink/purplish colours, but the Firebird Trilogy by Claudia Gray totally SLAYED it with the watercolour artwork!!! All three covers look stunning with elements of different cities and gorgeous landscapes (they are crucial elements of the actual books too!).

2. Best typography/font on a book cover

I love the font of Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo! This book and its sequel Crooked Kingdom are both fantastic fantasy books and I highly recommend them!

3. Best simple cover

I actually had to think a little while for this one, because I actually don’t own many books with simple covers! So I’ll go with Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell!. I love that mint colour with the pink lettering!

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Book Tag

Saw this awesome tag on Mae’s blog – I decided to give it a go because it seems so much fun! I tag all of you that wants to do this tag! Let’s go!

Oooh, this is a hard one! I’ll go with Brigid Kemmerer’s Letters to the Lost!!!! I’ve been talking non-stop to all my bookish and non-bookish friends and oh my – I highly recommend it to y’all! My spoiler-free review can be viewed on here.

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. I mean the book gave me so many feels and actual heartache. I would have written a review but nah I couldn’t do it because it’ll just be me banging the keyboard incoherently with the caps lock on (the whole time).

Wintersong, probably. People won’t stop talking about it – so I’ll have to read it and see for myself hehe!

Book Tag: Rapid Fire

Hey Heyyyyy!

I’m back! I finally finished all my exams (and I am praying that I did alright because I SIMPLY WANNA PASS). Anyways, putting the boring stuff aside, I’m going to do this AWSEOME tag which I found on theBookishLouge (the tag was originally made on a booktube which can be found on here)

Let’s get on with it!

1. E-book or Physical Book?

Physical book all the way. I want to be able to pat the book and to physically feel and smell it. I love the smell of books, yeah I’m weird. And I mean you can put it on the shelf and stare at it lovingly, how good is that?

2. Paperback or Hardback?

As much as I love hardbacks, my bank balance won’t allow it – so I am very happy with my floppy paperbacks. It’s light to carry and easy on the hand when reading in public.

3. Online or In-Store Book Shopping?

Online book shopping. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a better deal? (In my case, I NEED a better deal otherwise I can’t afford it). I also love going into bookstores to check out different versions before making a purchase online. (Trust me, I do want to buy books from local bookstore – support local business and stuff – but I need that money for my next lunch I am sorry.)

Book Tag: Beauty and the Beast

I had so much fun doing my first book tag, so I did another one hehe! I found the Beauty and the Beast Book Tag on Du Vire, and I thought oooh why not? Here we go!

“Oh what a guy, Gaston!”

1. A villain you can’t help but love.

Forever and always – the Darkling from the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. *swoon*

tumblr_mh47wom3y11r96zrbo1_500This is my version of the Darkling.

“Here’s where she meets Prince Charming”

2. Your OTP.

I have so many OTPs omg. But for the purpose of this tag, I’ll choose … Blue and Gansey from The Raven Cycle (gosh I love these guys). I love Pynch as well. You should know by now that I’m trashed for this series. So, not so much of a surprise here. How cute do they look in these fan art? Oh my gosh. ❤

Book Tag: Harry Potter Spell

I was tagged by Bekka from Pretty Deadly Reviews to do the Harry Potter Spell Book Tag! This is my first time doing on so I’m quite excited! (*squeal* because it’s Harry Potter theme!) Anyway, this tag was originally created by Kimberly Faye Reads. Let’s get to it.

1. Accio – the summoning charm. An upcoming release you cannot wait to get your hands on.

Oooh, this is a hard one! (Let’s be honest here) For the purpose of this tag I’ll go with Our Dark Duet by V.E. Schwab! I am so excited for it! If you haven’t read book 1 of the series This Savage Song, you’re surely missing out!

2. Alohamora – the unlocking charm. Favorite series starter.

Hands down The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater! I’m total trash for the Raven Cycle so no surprises there. Here are my 10 Reasons you should read The Raven Boys.

3. Cheering Charm. A book that gave you all the warm fuzzies.

I gotta give this one to Kasie West’s P.S. I Like You. It’s super cute and moving as well. I relate to the character a lot so it’s a winner for me!
