Book Review: Wreck by Fleur Ferris

G’day book lovers!!! Hope you are well! And a Happy Book Birthday to Wreck by Fluer Ferris! I only started this last night and I finished in one sitting! Before I go into my review, I want to thank Penguin Random House Australia for sending me a copy in exchange for my honest review! (In no ways this affects my thoughts or opinions on this book.)

Truth to be told, I’ve never read any of Fleur’s books. I’ve seen her other YA title Black around on bookstagram but I never got the chance to read it. But seeing that Wreck is a YA thriller set in Australia and written by an Australian author – I KNEW I had to get my hands on it. AND OH MY! It did not let me down!

The first few pages got me hooked completely that I couldn’t stop reading (nevermind that it was like 1 am) – and I simply couldn’t stop reading. I love the fact there was minimum mundane ‘fluff’ at the start – whereas in some novels, things don’t pick up until the third chapter. In this case, readers are thrown right into actions right from the beginning.

Being an Australian youth, I loved the way I can connect with the characters of the book, the way of Aussies communicate and of course – the place (Melbourne aka my favourite place on earth). And instead of jacket/hoodie, it’s jumper. And it’s triply zero, not 911. And it’s uni, not college. They are the little things which I really enjoyed!

The book itself isn’t long. It’s succinct and a nice quick read – with an extra dash of ‘epic-ness’. The writing flows wonderfully and the duo POVs were so brilliantly crafted as well. Even though it’s written in first person (and I’m very picky about this), I really really enjoyed it! The pace was good – fast but steady enough that I can ‘breathe’ (reference from the book *wink*).

There was only one thing that bugged me (and some minor plot holes which I ain’t exploring in detail). Perhaps it’s my brain that’s wired wrong, but I would imagine the solution to be a lot more complicated and involving more people. But then again, I am obsessed with crime shows and mysteries so my expectations are probably a bit high. But hey! That’s just me.

All in all, I truly enjoyed this action-drama-packed thriller and I recommend it to y’all that want a quick and easy read that gets your heart pumping! Upon finishing this Aussie YA novel – I WANT MORE! I am so keen for Fleur’s next novel and I’m definitely going to check out her other books!
